Ropafadzwa is 4 years old and was born to a teenage mother in the rural areas, he and his Mum were ostracized because of his disability. She eventually made her way into Bulawayo and a good Samaritan met her and took her to social welfare who then referred her to the CURE Children’s Hospital where Ropa had surgery to help with his condition. Him and his mom then needed a place to stay and that is how they came to join the Singabantwana family.

Ropa is now in the preschool class at out onsite school – Malibongwe Christian School. His mother has joined our vocational skills training programme and is learning skills that will enable her to support herself and her son with an agricultural project of her own.

It is lovely to see her smiling and being amongst girls her own age and getting the counseling, love and attention that she needs. She walks around literally beaming. Ropa has started speaking now and can form a few sentences. He has progressed from a wheelchair to walking with assistance and he loves music and singing. The other children are so protective of him and he is never without a friend holding his hand and helping him on the swings.

We look forward to watching their progress

We are grateful they found a home with us
